He Was Born In Winnipeg On April 2, 1881; Educated At Wesley College And The University Of Manitoba, From Where He Received A Bachelor Of Arts Degree In 1900. That Same Year He Began His Newspaper Career At The Free Press. In 1919 He Left The Free Press To Become Advertising Manager To The Grain Growers Guide. He Subsequently Organized And Joined The Macpherson, Mcurdy Advertising Agency. Returning To The Newspaper Business In 1913, He Became Director, Secretary- Treasurer, And Assistant To The General Manager At The Free Press. Mccurdy Was Business Manager Of The Tribune In 1924 And Was Appointed Vice-President And Managing Director In 1936. In 1942 He Was Named Vice- President Of The Southam Company And Publisher Of The Tribune. He Retired From The Tribune In 1948 After 48 Years In The Advertising And Publishing Business In Wiinnipeg. William (Billy) Ashbury Buchanan Was Born In South Monagham, On., On July 2, 1876. He Was Educated In Several Parishes In Ontario. He Began His Newspaper Career With The Old Peterborough Review When He Was 17. At Age 24 He Went To The Toronto Telegram As City Editor And Later Became Managing Director Of The St. Thomas, Ontario, Journal. In 1905 He Moved West And Acquiried Ownership Of The Lethbridge Herald In 1907 And Became Active In The Development Of Southern Alberta. He Organized The First Legislative Library For The Alberta Legislature. In 1909 He Was Elected To The Alberta Legislature As A Liberal Member For The City Of Lethbridge. In 1910 He Became Minister Without Portfolio In The Futherford Government. In 1911 He Ran In The Federal Election And Took His Seat In The House Of Commons Under Prime Minister Wilfrid Laurier As A Representative Of Medicine Hat, Ab. In 1925 He Was Appointed Senator. Winnipeg Monarch Senior Hockey Club Versus Toronto Riversides, Champs Eastern Canada, Toronto, On. Dick Irvin, George Hay, Monarch Stars. Top Row (L- R): Cece Browne. George Hay Born In Listowel, On, In January 1898. He Spent His Early Hockey Days In Winnipeg And Played With The Winnipeg Monarchs With Dick Irvin In 1915 And 1916 And Later Senior With Regina Vics In 1920-1921. He Turned Professional With Regina Caps Again With Irvin And During His Four Years There Scored 87 Goals And 58 Assists. Then He Was With The Portland Rosebuds With Irvin And He Scored 18 Goals. When The Team Was Sold To Chicago They Both Moved Into The Nhl. George Had A 14 And 8 Year With Chicago And Then Was Traded To Detroit Gougars (Later The Detroit Red Wings) And Was Top Scorer On The Club With 22 Goals And 13 Asists. In His 5 Years In The Nhl He Produced 73 Goals And 54 Assists.George Hay Made The 1927 All-Star Team Selected By The Managers, With Howie Morenz And Bill Cook As Line Mates. He Retired In 1931 And Went To Stratford, On |
